One of the first things that strike’s you about a scholarship is the organisation and planning behind the integration of your studies and the soccer programme. During pre-season we trained from 7:00 – 9:00 am, attending lectures during the day then finishing with another session between 6:00 – 8:00 pm. As the season progressed the curriculum adjusted according to our travel and match programme. Just as well as I was to visit
- Georgia
- Maryland
- South Carolina
- New York State
- Texas
All between August and November.
I didn’t look back. Despite the 40º Heat in the early part of the season I settled well. We ended the season with a 16-4-2 (W-D-L) record scoring 79 goals, conceding 14 and winning the Regional and District titles reaching the nationals in Tyler, Texas. We didn’t manage to reproduce some of our early seasons form but despite losing out to a last minute goal in the semi-final we finished third overall, the college’s highest ever finish and we received the National Coaches number 1 college ranking in their poll.
On a personal level I played 21 games, scoring 7 goals and creating 13 assists receiving All-American Nominations for the Regional & District Associations. I was happy with the outcome and it certainly sets the bar for 2007.
